If it's laying on the fret, shim it, if there's any measurable distance, lower it. Having the nut set right will only affect buzz on open notes. WebMay 13, 2007 · A nut that has it's slots cut too deeply will buzz at the first fret...it's a classic symptom. No truss rod adjustment is going to fix this...the solution is to bring your guitar to a luthier, and have them shape and install a new nut. The good news is that it should be a $30-$40 fix at a reputable luthier. Good luck!
